چکیده
Objective: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between acute-phase reactants and oxidative stress epilepsy. Methods: The patient group consisted of 67 patients who applied Pediatric Neurology outpatient clinic were diagnosed with generalized type epilepsy according ILAE classification, 33 receiving monotherapy 34 antiepileptic medication in form polytherapy. control included 30 healthy volunteer participants similar sociodemographic characteristics same age range, without or any known chronic disease. Total anti-Oxidant Status (TAS) total Oxidant (TOS) measured method developed by Erel, index (OSI) was calculated. Sensitive C-reactive protein (Hs-CRP) levels measured. Results: Both TOS OSI received polytherapy statistically significantly higher than (p = 0.004, 19.29 ± 1.27, 19.22 1.26, respectively, 14.49 1.75, 1.66 0.12, 1.72 0.11, 1.27 0.11), respectively. Hs-CRP level (0.59 0.06 mg / L, 1.09 respectively) significant compared (0.42 0.02 L) higher. Conclusion: In this study, findings suggest that epileptic seizures increase parameters antioxidant mechanisms are insufficient reduce damage. addition, considering high serum levels, it is extremely important develop treatment strategies can inflammatory process treating resistant

متن کاملAdverse effects & drug load of antiepileptic drugs in patients with epilepsy: Monotherapy versus polytherapy
BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES Although the need for a combination of antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) in the treatment of epilepsy is well justified, but an associated increase in adverse effects (AEs) lends a restriction to polytherapy. The aim of this study was to evaluate AEs and drug load (prescribed daily dose/defined daily doses) of AEDs in patients with epilepsy (PWE). METHODS Consecutive PWEs att...
متن کاملAcute Phase Reactants as a Prognostic Factor in Acute Stroke
Introduction: Elevated levels of CRP are present among patients at risk for further first-ever myocardial infarction and stroke. It has been shown that after ischemic stroke, increased levels of CRP are associated with unfavorable outcomes. Methods: From 120 patients admitted to the emergency unit of our hospital with the diagnosis of stroke CRP, D-dimer and ferritin level was measured and the ...
متن کاملRational conversion from antiepileptic polytherapy to monotherapy.
For patients with epilepsy, the goal of treatment is to achieve seizure freedom with minimal or no adverse events. Around 60%-70% of newly diagnosed patients will achieve this goal with single antiepileptic drug (AED) therapy, and there is universal agreement that prescription of a single agent constitutes best practice for such patients. For the 30%-40% of patients with poorly controlled epile...

OBJECTIVE To assess efficacy and safety of adjunctive perampanel in patients with drug-resistant, primary generalized tonic-clonic (PGTC) seizures in idiopathic generalized epilepsy (IGE). METHODS In this multicenter, double-blind study (ClinicalTrials.gov identifier: NCT01393743; funded by Eisai Inc.), patients 12 years or older with PGTC seizures and IGE were randomized to placebo or peramp...
